No. 15 Richard Bland Splits Conference Weekend in North Carolina

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The No.15 Richard Bland College Women's Volleyball team wrapped up a competitive weekend on Saturday, earning a straight-sets sweep over Guilford Technical Community College after a hard-fought four-set battle with host Davidson-Davie. The split brings the Statesmen to 17-5 overall and 7-2 in Region 10 play, continuing their strong run through October.

 

Richard Bland opened the day with a strong start, taking the first set 25-20 behind a balanced attack led by Taelin Connolley and Gabrielle Meador. Despite pushing the next three sets to the wire, the Statesmen narrowly fell 20-25 in the second set, and back-to-back 24-26 frames to close out the match.

 

Connolley paced the offense with 16 kills, 17 digs, and an ace, while Meador posted 12 kills on a .250 hitting percentage. Clara Coles was active on both sides of the net, finishing with eight kills, six total blocks, and three assists. Braelyn Boyd chipped in six kills, and Aliyah Millner added four more to keep the Statesmen within striking distance throughout.

 

Kaylie Klemm dished out 25 assists, while Rachelle Martin added 13 assists and two aces. Kristen Mathes anchored the defense with 18 digs, helping RBC total 82 digs and 53 kills in a gritty effort against the Storm.

 

The Statesmen responded in dominant fashion, cruising to a straight-set victory over Guilford Technical Community College to close the weekend. Connolley once again led the charge with 11 kills on a .667 hitting percentage while firing a season-best eight service aces. Rachel Pickens provided a spark at the net with 10 kills on .316 efficiency, and Coles added seven kills and two blocks in another steady outing.

 

Klemm continued her strong setting play with 21 assists and an ace, while Martin added five aces and four assists. Millner chipped in three kills and an ace, and Mathes anchored the back row with 16 digs.

 

RBC's serving and defense were dominant, producing 18 service aces and a 47-8 edge in digs, sealing a confident rebound victory.

 

The Statesmen will next host Louisburg College on Wednesday, October 15th for a PINK OUT night at 6pm. Following Wednesday's match, Richard Bland will host Lenoir Community College for Sophomore Night at 6pm.
