SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The No. 13 Richard Bland College Women's Volleyball team wrapped up a competitive weekend with two wins and a narrow five-set loss, improving to 10-3 overall, 1-1 in conference play on the season.
The Statesmen opened the road swing on Friday night with a tightly contested battle at Cape Fear Community College, falling in five sets by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, and 11-15. Despite the loss, the team showed resilience and firepower, led by sophomore outside hitter Taelin Connolley, who delivered a match-high 21 kills on a .300 hitting percentage, along with 14 digs and a service ace. Clara Coles was a force in the middle with 10 kills (.348), and Gabrielle Meador and Marisa Furner added valuable production at the net. Rachelle Martin and Kaylie Klemm combined for 38 assists, while libero Kristen Mathes tallied 23 digs to anchor the back row. The Statesmen recorded 12 team blocks and 80 digs in the tightly fought contest.
The following morning, Richard Bland regrouped and secured a gritty five-set, reverse sweep comeback victory over Fayetteville Tech. After dropping the first two sets, 17-25 and 23-25, the Statesmen rallied behind Connolley and Meador to flip the match. RBC stormed back with 25-22 and 25-20 wins to even the contest, then closed the door in the decisive fifth frame, 15-10. Connolley once again led the way with 19 kills and 25 digs, while Meador chipped in 14 kills and three service aces. Martin guided the offense with 17 assists and four aces, and Mathes added another 23 digs to stabilize the back row.
The Statesmen carried that momentum into their afternoon match against USC Lancaster, posting a convincing 3-1 victory by set scores of 25-19, 27-29, 25-17, and 25-20. Connolley capped her standout weekend with 19 more kills and 16 digs, finishing the three-match road trip with 59 total kills and 55 digs. Meador contributed 13 kills on a .312 hitting percentage, while Furner and Coles combined for 11 kills and five blocks in the middle. Klemm directed the offense with 25 assists, and the defense was again anchored by Mathes, who recorded 22 digs.
Currently, the following individuals are ranked in the top five of their respective stat categories for Region 10 DII Women's Volleyball:

The No. 13 Statesmen return to action this week as they travel to the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, September 23rd for a 7pm match.
