SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Soccer team put together a strong performance on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 3-1 victory over Patrick & Henry Community College at Willcox Field. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 5-3-2 overall and 2-3-2 in Region 10 play.
The Statesmen struck first in the 20th minute when sophomore forward Victor Manuel finished off a setup from Bruno Gregor to give RBC the lead. Thirteen minutes later, Richard Bland doubled its advantage as Cornelious Appiah Oppong buried a chance set up by Bayly Wright, sending the Statesmen into halftime up 2-0.
Appiah Oppong struck again late in the second half, netting his second goal of the day in the 83rd minute off an assist from Caleb Muluneh to cap the scoring and seal the victory.
Richard Bland dictated the run of play throughout, generating 13 total shots with six on frame while also earning a pair of corner kicks. Goalkeeper Owen Stahl recorded four saves in a steady 90-minute performance to anchor the back line.
The Statesmen will return to Willcox Field on Saturday, October 11th for a 2pm match with the Owls of Prince George's Community College.
