Statesmen Defeat Bishops Midweek, Down Flying Eagles on Sunday

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Soccer team continued its strong start to the 2025 season with back-to-back victories, defeating North Carolina Wesleyan University JV 2-0 on Tuesday before earning another clean-sheet win, 2-0, over Southwest Virginia on Sunday at Willcox Field. The pair of results pushed the Statesmen to 3-1 overall.

Against NC Wesleyan JV, freshman forward Elijah Marks provided the spark with both goals in the second half. Marks struck first in the 55th minute off a feed from Joel Hernandez, before adding his second 20 minutes later on an assist from Naor Suarez. Goalkeeper Owen Stahl secured the shutout with five saves, while the Statesmen held a decisive 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The momentum carried into the weekend against the Southwest Virginia Flying Eagles. Reece Black opened the scoring early in the 14th minute with an unassisted goal, and Victor Manuel sealed the result with a penalty-kick finish in the 70th minute. Once again, Stahl and the RBC defense proved unbreakable, while Stahl collected three saves for his second consecutive clean sheet.

The Statesmen now turn their attention to a road matchup on Friday, September 12th, at Wake Technical Community College. Kickoff is set for 1:30pm.
