Statesmen Sweep Weekend Road Trip with Wins Over Panthers and Indians
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team closed out the weekend in strong fashion, earning back-to-back victories over Denmark Technical College, 84-62 on Friday and USC Salkehatchie, 97-91 on Saturday.
On Friday, Richard Bland set the tone early and never looked back, using an efficient offensive performance and dominance on the glass to roll past Denmark Tech, 84-62. The Statesmen shot 63.5 percent (33-of-52) from the field and outrebounded Denmark Tech, grabbing 43 boards. RBC led 39-27 at halftime before pouring in 45 second-half points to secure the 22-point victory. Doyle Brown paced the offense with 33 points on an impressive 12-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. Emmanuel Vonhm added 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Jermaine Coston Jr. controlled the paint with 20 rebounds to go along with 12 points. Off the bench, Jahi Bowden contributed six points and six assists as the Statesmen totaled 19 assists and 13 steals in the win.
In a high-scoring battle Saturday afternoon, Richard Bland held off a late push from USC Salkehatchie to complete the weekend sweep with a 97-91 victory. After taking a 35-31 lead into halftime, the Statesmen erupted for 62 second-half points. RBC capitalized at the free-throw line, going 34-of-46, while also knocking down 53.8 percent from three-point range (7-of-13). Jahi Bowden delivered a huge performance off the bench, scoring 22 points on 10-of-11 shooting. Doyle Brown followed with 19 points, and Coston Jr. recorded another dominant effort with 18 points and 21 rebounds. Vonhm added 13 points and 10 boards for his second double-double of the weekend. Andy Ramirez provided a spark at the stripe, going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in limited minutes. As a team, the Statesmen outrebounded USC Salkehatchie 51-49 and forced 19 turnovers to secure the six-point win.
With the two victories, Richard Bland builds momentum heading into the final week of the regular season after an impressive offensive weekend that saw the Statesmen average 90.5 points per game while shooting efficiently from the field and controlling the boards.
The Statesmen will next travel to Cape Fear Community College on Wednesday, March 4th for a 5pm conference contest. RBC will then travel to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Friday, March 6th for their final regular season contest. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
