No. 16 Richard Bland Rolls Past College of Southern Maryland
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The No. 16 Richard Bland College Women's Volleyball team delivered a commanding road performance on Tuesday evening, sweeping the College of Southern Maryland in straight sets. The Statesmen never trailed in the match, rolling to victories of 25-15, 25-8, and 25-18 to improve to 11-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 10 play.
Richard Bland set the tone early, hitting .310 in the opening frame before overpowering the Hawks in the second with a .400 clip while limiting the hosts to just three kills. The Statesmen closed the door in the third behind balanced attacking and suffocating defense.
Sophomore outside hitter Taelin Connolley delivered another standout performance, recording a match-high 14 kills at a .310 efficiency while adding nine digs and four service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Aliyah Millner provided a major spark with six kills on .500 hitting and two blocks, while middle blocker Marisa Furner chipped in five kills at a blistering .556 pace to go with six blocks.
Setter Rachelle Martin paced the offense with 15 assists and added two aces, while fellow setter Kaylie Klemm tallied 14 assists and an ace of her own. Gabrielle Meador and Braelyn Boyd combined for eight kills and five blocks, adding depth to the attack. Defensively, libero Kristen Mathes anchored the back row with eight digs.
As a team, Richard Bland hit .280 on the day, recorded 16 total blocks, and finished with nine service aces, keeping the Hawks off balance throughout the match.
Richard Bland Women's Volleyball returns to action on Saturday, September 27th for a conference tri-match at Wake Technical Community College. The Statesmen will compete against the hosts at 10am, and Forsyth Technical Community College at 12pm.
