Penalty Kicks Settle tense Region 10 Semifinal as Women’s Soccer Bows to Wake Tech
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College women's soccer team saw its postseason run come to a heartbreaking end on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Wake Technical Community College 3-4 in penalty kicks after playing to a 1-1 draw through double overtime in the Region 10 Semifinals.
The Statesmen struck first in the 20th minute when Shani Priestly found the back of the net on an unassisted, free kick effort, giving RBC an early 1-0 advantage. Wake Tech responded 12 minutes later to even the score, and from there, both defenses held firm for the remainder of regulation and two scoreless overtime periods.
In goal, Allyson Klotz delivered an outstanding performance for the Statesmen, recording 13 saves to keep RBC in contention throughout the match. Offensively, Richard Bland tallied nine total shots, with five on goal, led by Priestly, Sara Liones, and Grace Pope.
Despite the shootout loss, the Statesmen displayed relentless effort and composure in one of their most competitive matches of the season.
The defeat concludes a strong 2025 campaign for the Statesmen, who finished the year 6-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Region 10 play. The program continued to show steady growth, with several players earning All-Region honors for their standout performances throughout the season, which was announced prior to the Region Semifinals.
