SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Women's Soccer team continued its strong start to the season with a 5-1 victory over CCBC Essex on Saturday afternoon at Willcox Field. With the win, the Statesmen improved to 3-1 overall and secured their third consecutive triumph.
RBC wasted no time setting the tone, striking in just the second minute when Jade Perkins finished off a pass from Jenna Autry. CCBC Essex quickly leveled the score in the 11th minute, but the Statesmen regained control and never looked back. Ingrid Garcia put RBC back on top in the 21st minute, assisted by Sara Sparks, before Rhianna Pena extended the lead to 3-1 ten minutes later on another feed from Autry.
The Statesmen attack carried into the second half, as Pena netted her second goal of the day in the 55th minute off a pass from Perkins. Perkins then capped the scoring in the 67th minute, finishing a setup from Sara Liones to make it 5-1.
In total, RBC generated 15 shots with 8 on frame, while goalkeeper Piper Whitney anchored the back line with two saves across the full 90 minutes.
The Statesmen will look to keep rolling this week as they travel to Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday, September 10th, with kickoff scheduled for 7pm at the EMU Turf Field.
