Granger Nets Five as Statesmen Dominate USC Sumter

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Women's Soccer team earned a decisive 7-1 victory over USC Sumter on Wednesday afternoon, improving their record to 2-1 overall.

The Statesmen attack was relentless, firing 32 total shots with 19 on goal. Freshhman forward Alanjane Granger led the way with an outstanding five-goal performance, including four in the second half to secure the win.

RBC struck first in the 10th minute when Granger finished off an assist from Grace Pope. After USC Sumter equalized midway through the first half, the Statesmen regained the lead just before halftime when Sara Liones connected on a feed from Pope to make it 2-1.

The second half was all Richard Bland. Granger scored in the 53rd, 54th, 71st, and 75th minutes, with assists coming from Marta Serrano, Rhianna Pena, Pope, and Jenna Autry. Jade Perkins added a goal of her own on a penalty kick in the 60th minute to round out the scoring.

Defensively, the Statesmen back line held USC Sumter to just one shot, while goalkeeper Piper Whitney played the full 90 minutes in net.

Richard Bland will look to continue its momentum this weekend as they return to action in pursuit of a third straight win. The Statesmen are set to host the Knights of CCBC Essex on Saturday, September 6th at Willcox Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
