Richard Bland Sweeps Mid-Atlantic Christian in Weekend Action

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Softball team delivered an offensive showcase Saturday afternoon, sweeping Mid-Atlantic Christian University 8-3 and 18-3 in a home doubleheader.

 

In game one, the Statesmen jumped out early and never looked back, plating three runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second to take control. Richard Bland tallied 11 hits in the contest, highlighted by a solo home run from Jaclyn Betti and a triple from Kamryn Lane. Samantha Montalvo added a double as part of her two-hit performance, while Allison Hebron and Arianna Manson each recorded multi-hit games and drove in a run. The Statesmen were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping multiple bags to keep pressure on the MACU defense. Hebron led the charge with two stolen bases, while Manson, Montalvo, Betti, Emma Shelhorse, and Shekinah Soto also added steals. In the circle, Emma Shelhorse earned the win (2-1), working four innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out two. Ava Balli was dominant in relief, tossing three shutout innings with six strikeouts to secure her first save of the season.

 

In game two, the Statesmen offense erupted in game two, scoring 12 runs over the first two innings to break the game open early. Richard Bland finished with 19 hits and 14 RBIs in the five-inning run-rule victory. Patricia Lett powered the lineup with a home run, two doubles, and five RBIs in a 3-for-4 performance. Jaclyn Betti continued her strong day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs. Kamryn Lane, Samantha Barbe, and Alizabeth Wooding each contributed multi-hit efforts, while Sydney Thompson added an RBI. Richard Bland once again showcased its speed, collecting multiple stolen bases throughout the contest. Marissa Anderson was credited with the win (3-3) in the circle as the Statesmen completed the sweep.

 

With the two victories, Richard Bland continues to build momentum early in the season, combining timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and strong pitching performances to protect home field.

 

Richard Bland (9-9) will next host CCBC Catonsville on Wednesday, March 4th in a 1pm non-conference doubleheader.
