SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Soccer team struck early and never looked back, earning a decisive 3–0 victory over Cape Fear Community College on Sunday afternoon at Willcox Field. The win marks another strong performance for the Statesmen as they close out the regular season on a high note.
Richard Bland came out firing in the opening half, striking twice within the first 45 minutes. Sophomore Ian MacArthur opened the scoring with an unassisted finish to give the Statesmen the early edge. Minutes later, MacArthur assisted David Viegas on a smooth combination play to make it 2–0. In the second half, Cornelious Appiah Oppong sealed the victory with an unassisted goal to push the lead to 3–0.
Goalkeeper Owen Stahl anchored the defensive unit, posting a clean sheet with five saves in 90 minutes of play. The Statesmen outshot Cape Fear 16–5 and held a 9–2 advantage in corner kicks, controlling the tempo from start to finish.
With the victory, Richard Bland secures the No. 3 seed in the Region 10 standings and advances to postseason play. The Statesmen will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face No. 2 seed Wake Technical Community College in the Region 10 Semifinals on Wednesday at 12:30pm.
