Men’s Soccer Dominates in Season Opener with 6-1 Victory at Anne Arundel

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Soccer team opened its 2025 season in commanding fashion, defeating Anne Arundel Community College 6-1 on the road Friday evening. The Statesmen showcased an explosive offensive attack and steady defense to secure the non-conference victory, as they moved to 1-1 overall.

RBC struck quickly in the 7th minute, when Victor Manuel converted a pass from David Viegas to put the Statesmen ahead. Minutes later, Reece Black doubled the advantage with an unassisted goal in the 26th minute, giving Richard Bland a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw the Statesmen fully take control, scoring four times in a 17-minute span. Bayly Wright opened the half with an unassisted strike in the 60th minute, followed just 20 seconds later by Naor Suarez's goal. Joel Hernandez added a fifth tally off a feed from Ian MacArthur in the 69th, and freshman Elijah Marks scored his first collegiate goal in the 78th to cap the RBC scoring run.

Anne Arundel pulled one back in the 87th minute, but the Statesmen defense and goalkeeper Owen Stahl limited opportunities throughout the night. Stahl earned five saves in the frame. RBC outshot the Riverhawks 20-12 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

With six different players finding the back of the net, the Statesmen displayed the depth and balance of their attack. Richard Bland now turns its focus to its home opener at Willcox Field on Wednesday, September 3rd, when they host USC Sumter. Kickoff is set for 5pm.

The Statesmen return to action at home on Tuesday, September 2nd, when they host North Carolina Wesleyan University JV at Willcox Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
