Statesmen Drop Regular Season Finale to Cobras
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team closed out its regular season on Friday evening with a hard-fought 72-74 loss to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute.
The Statesmen trailed 27-31 at halftime before responding with a strong offensive effort in the second half, scoring 45 points over the final 20 minutes. Richard Bland kept the game tight down the stretch but was unable to overcome the narrow deficit in the closing moments.
Andy Ramirez led the Statesmen with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Jermaine Coston Jr. recorded a double-double of his own with 18 points and a game-high 19 rebounds while also adding two blocks. Doyle Brown finished with 17 points, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Aleksandar Bihler added 10 points and five rebounds, while Dove Fishburne contributed six assists and two steals.
Richard Bland shot 40 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range while converting 16-of-22 free throws. The Statesmen pulled down 40 total rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass.
The Statesmen will now turn their attention to postseason play. Richard Bland enters the Region 10 Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 seed Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Thursday at 1pm in Statesman Hall. The Region 10 Tournament is single elimination. More information about the tournament will be posted soon.
