Statesmen Edge Cape Fear in Overtime Thriller
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team picked up a dramatic road victory Wednesday evening, defeating Cape Fear Community College 65-64 in overtime.
The Statesmen built an early advantage and carried a 33-17 lead into halftime after a strong defensive first half. Cape Fear responded in the second half, erupting for 42 points and erasing the deficit to force overtime after outscoring Richard Bland 26-42 in the period.
In the extra frame, the Statesmen held their composure and narrowly outscored the Sea Devils 6-5 to secure the one-point win. Richard Bland was led by Andy Ramirez, who scored a game-high 27 points while pulling down 14 rebounds to record a double-double. Jermaine Coston Jr. also posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 17 rebounds while adding four steals.
Doyle Brown contributed 12 points and knocked down three three-pointers for the Statesmen, including the game winner, while Aleksandar Bihler added six points and 15 rebounds along with four assists. Dove Fishburne directed the offense with a team-high eight assists, and the Statesmen totaled 17 assists and nine steals in the win.
Richard Bland shot 41.8 percent from the field and controlled the glass with 53 rebounds.
The Statesmen will next travel to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Friday, March 6th for their final regular season contest. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
