Statesmen Defend Home Court in Conference Clash with Cobras
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College men's basketball used a dominant first half and a balanced all-around effort to secure a 65-48 home victory over Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Friday afternoon.
The Statesmen set the tone early, jumping out to a 38–22 halftime lead behind strong defensive pressure and efficient shooting. RBC never relinquished control, holding Caldwell to just 26 points in the second half to seal the conference win.
Doyle Brown led all scorers with 26 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Brown's scoring punch was complemented by Andy Ramirez, who posted a well-rounded stat line with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists in 39 minutes.
Inside, Jermaine Coston Jr. was a force on the glass, recording a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with four blocks and three steals, anchoring the Statesmen defensively. Aleksandar Bihler provided a spark off the bench with nine points on efficient shooting, while Jude Angervil added six points, including a pair of timely three-pointers.
As a team, Richard Bland shot 41.5 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc, while holding Caldwell to just 48 points for the game.
With the win, the Statesmen improve to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play, continuing to build momentum as they move deeper into the Region 10 schedule.
The Statesmen will next travel to Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, January 31st for a 3pm tip, in a redemption game. 24 hours later, Richard Bland will face the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College for a full Region 10, action-packed weekend.
