Statesmen Battle Through Double Overtime in Heartbreaker Against Wake Tech
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College men's basketball delivered one of its grittiest performances of the season on Tuesday night, pushing Wake Technical Community College into double overtime before ultimately falling 86-96 in a thriller at Statesman Hall.
The Statesmen showcased toughness, endurance, and elite shot-making throughout the night, overcoming multiple deficits and forcing overtime on a late surge in regulation. But Wake Tech's finishing ability in the second extra period proved to be the difference.
RBC was powered by a standout trio as Andy Ramirez, Doyle Brown, and Jermaine Coston Jr. carried the offensive load while playing 35+ minutes.
Ramirez turned in an exciting 32-point performance, knocking down five threes and attacking the rim relentlessly over a 50-minute outing. Brown was electric from beyond the arc as well, scoring 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting while hitting five triples of his own.
Coston anchored the interior for RBC, producing a dominant 16-rebound effort—including seven offensive boards—while adding 10 points and three blocks for his first double-double of the season, in 50 minutes of action.
Off the bench, Jude Angervil added a crucial spark with 13 points and 12 rebounds, recording a double-double that kept the Statesmen within striking distance late.
RBC trailed 35-40 at halftime but responded with a strong second half, eventually tying the game at the end of regulation. Both teams traded key baskets in the first overtime, with neither able to gain separation. Wake Tech, however, capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities in the second extra period to close out the win.
Despite the loss, the Statesmen finished with 40 rebounds, 17 assists, and 10 steals, showcasing both effort and execution in one of their most hard-fought games of the year.
Richard Bland returns to action this weekend as they travel to East Georgia State College for a back-to-back action Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, RBC will face the hosts at 4pm, and will finish the weekend against South Georgia Technical College at 1pm Sunday.
