Statesmen Fall Just Short in Road Battle at Harford

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College men's basketball team came up just shy in a defensive battle Thursday night, falling 52-54 on the road at Harford Community College.

Both teams opened the game with strong defensive intensity, holding each other scoreless through the first minute and a half before Harford broke the ice with a layup to take an early lead. The opening half remained tight throughout, with neither team leading by more than a few possessions. Harford entered halftime ahead 25-26.

Richard Bland continued to battle in the second half behind standout performances from Doyle Brown and Andy Ramirez, but Harford managed to hold on late to stay unbeaten.

Brown led the Statesmen with 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Ramirez posted his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Jermaine Coston Jr. added six points and five boards, and Dove Fishburne contributed on both ends with three rebounds and two assists.

As a team, Richard Bland shot 41.5% from the field and 38.5% from beyond the arc, while holding Harford to 43% shooting overall. The Statesmen outrebounded Harford 31-20 but were narrowly edged at the free-throw line and in points off turnovers.

With the loss, Richard Bland moves to 1-1 overall on the season and will look to bounce back in the next contest which is set for Tuesday, November 11th. The Statesmen will host Patrick & Henry Community College at 7pm.
