SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Baseball team wrapped up its 2026 campaign over the weekend at Petersburg Sports Complex, dropping all three games of a conference series to Brunswick Community College. The Statesmen finish the season with a 15-36 overall record and honored their sophomore class prior to Saturday's finale.
In game one, Richard Bland struck first with a three-run opening inning, highlighted by RBI production from Donavan Johnson and Sam Gupta. However, Brunswick quickly responded and took control with a series of big innings, including a four-run fifth and multi-run frames in the sixth and eighth. Myles Holmes led the Statesmen at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Carson Seely added a pair of hits. Despite eight total hits, RBC was unable to generate offense after the first inning. Brunswick capitalized on four home runs and took advantage of five Statesmen errors to secure the opener.
Game two featured a much tighter contest, with both teams trading runs early. Miguel Martin drove in the lone run for RBC with a RBI double in the third inning. The Statesmen were limited to just three hits in the game, with Seely and Martin accounting for two of them. Brunswick methodically added runs across the middle innings, while strong pitching kept RBC from mounting a comeback.
Prior to game three, Richard Bland honored its sophomore class for their contributions to the program; Cam Lamb, Carson Seely, Michael Keyes, Myles Holmes, Taloa Moefaauo, Charlie Hogan, Sam Gupta, Jaziel Torres, Miguel Martin, Nate Riggs, Marco Cafaro, Brady Page, Caleb O'Quinn, Henry Stewart, Austin McGraw, Luke Sweeney, Ryan Paul, and David Smith. The group played a key role in the development and culture of the team, leaving a lasting impact on the Statesmen baseball program.
Saturday's finale proved to be the most competitive game of the series, as the Statesmen jumped out to an early 6-0 lead behind a big second and third inning. Donavan Johnson delivered a bases-clearing double, and Carson Seely continued his strong weekend with multiple RBI. Brunswick answered with a five-run fourth inning and continued to chip away before taking a late lead. RBC rallied in the eighth inning to tie the game at eight, but a solo home run in the ninth gave Brunswick the edge. The Statesmen totaled 16 hits in the finale, with Seely (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Johnson (2-for-3, 3 RBI), and Joseph Karpovich (2-for-5, RBI) leading the offensive effort.
Despite the results, the weekend marked the conclusion of the 2026 season, with the program looking ahead to continued growth and development heading into next year.
