Early Surge by Bobcats Sinks Statesmen in Midweek Matchup

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College Baseball struggled to generate offense on Tuesday afternoon, falling 1-11 in a five-inning contest at Bryant & Stratton College (VA).

The Statesmen were limited to just two hits on the day, as Bryant & Stratton's pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts and held RBC hitters off balance throughout the game. Sophomore Donavan Johnson accounted for one of the lone bright spots offensively, going 1-for-2 with a double and scoring the team's only run. Taloa Moefaauo also recorded a hit and showcased aggressiveness on the basepaths with two stolen bases.

Bryant & Stratton broke things open in the second inning, plating three runs on a pair of timely hits, including a two-RBI double. They added three more in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run home run, before erupting for five runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

On the mound, David Smith took the loss after allowing three runs across two innings of work. Michael Keyes and Brady Page followed in relief, combining to allow eight runs as the Bobcats capitalized on nine walks issued by RBC pitching. Despite the setback, the Statesmen continued to battle, with their lone run coming in the fourth inning.

Richard Bland Baseball will next host Brunswick Community College in the final three-game conference series of the season, on Friday, May 1st in a 12pm doubleheader, with game three taking play on Saturday, May 2nd.
