SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College Baseball faced a busy stretch this past week, hosting Bryant & Stratton (VA) in a midweek matchup before traveling south for a three-game series against Fayetteville Technical Community College. The Statesmen showed resilience throughout the week, highlighted by a bounce-back win in conference play.
In the mid-week matchup with the Bobcats, the Statesmen ran into a hot-hitting Bryant & Stratton squad at Petersburg Sports Complex, falling 3-15 in a five-inning contest. Bryant & Stratton jumped out early and never looked back, piling up 13 hits and scoring in every inning. A seven-run fifth inning put the game out of reach as the Bobcats capitalized on timely hitting and a handful of RBC miscues. Richard Bland managed five hits on the day, with Myles Holmes driving in both RBIs on a third-inning single. Henry Stewart recorded a triple, while Lucas De Cordova and Warren Landreth each crossed the plate. On the mound, the Statesmen utilized a committee approach, with five pitchers seeing action.
Game one against the Trojans was a back-and-forth battle. In the end, the Statesmen dropped a heartbreaker in extra innings to open the series. RBC totaled 12 hits, powered by a huge day from Myles Holmes, who blasted two home runs and drove in four runs. Vincent Howald also went deep and scored three times, while Cam Lamb added a pair of hits and an RBI. After trading runs late, Fayetteville Tech tied the game in the ninth before walking it off in the tenth.
In game two against the Trojans, the Statesmen responded in a big way, erupting for 12 runs to even the series. Lucas De Cordova led the charge with a 3-for-5 performance, including two doubles and three RBI. Cam Lamb drove in three runs, while Rhett Boyer added a home run. RBC used patience at the plate, drawing seven walks, and delivered a decisive four-run seventh inning to take control. Out of the bullpen, Hayden Black was dominant, tossing three shutout innings to secure the win.
In the series finale, the Statesmen struggled to generate offense, managing just three hits in a 1-6 loss. Lucas De Cordova drove in the lone run for RBC, while Rhett Boyer accounted for two of the team's three hits. Fayetteville Tech broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning and never relinquished control.
Richard Bland Baseball will next travel to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Tuesday, April 28th for a 2pm contest.
