Statesmen Split Opening Doubleheader, Drop Finale in Conference Series with Lancers

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Baseball team battled through a high-scoring three-game conference series against Lenoir Community College, earning a split on Saturday before falling in Sunday's finale.

In game one, the Statesmen opened the series with a thrilling comeback victory, outlasting Lenoir CC 14-13 in a back-and-forth contest at Petersburg Sports Complex. Richard Bland jumped out early with a three-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Henry Stewart. After Lenoir responded with a big eight-run fourth inning to take control, the Statesmen chipped away and delivered a decisive five-run sixth inning to regain the lead. Stewart led the offensive charge, going 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. Sam Gupta added a standout performance with four hits and two RBI, while Myles Holmes and Rhett Boyer each contributed key extra-base hits. Warren Landreth and Lucas De Cordova also drove in two runs apiece. On the mound, Matthew Gentry earned the win in relief, shutting the door late to secure the victory.

In game two, Lenoir evened the series with a 6-11 win, using a strong start and timely hitting to hold off the Statesmen. RBC trailed early after a four-run first inning by Lenoir and was unable to fully recover despite scoring in the middle innings. Rhett Boyer provided a spark with a three-run home run, while Sam Gupta and Myles Holmes each recorded RBI. The Statesmen collected 11 hits in the contest, but Lenoir capitalized on key opportunities and drew seven walks to maintain control throughout.

In Sunday's series finale, Lenoir CC secured the series win with a 1-11 run-rule victory. Richard Bland scored its lone run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Myles Holmes, but the offense was limited to just two hits on the day. Lenoir took advantage of control issues on the mound, using patience at the plate and timely hitting to pull away early. Cam Lamb and Carson Seely accounted for the Statesmen's only hits in the game.

Richard Bland Baseball will next host Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 22nd at Petersburg Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 3pm.
