SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Baseball team battled through an offensive-heavy three-game set against Pitt Community College this weekend at Petersburg Sports Complex, but ultimately came up short, falling in all three contests despite several standout individual performances and strong stretches at the plate.
In game one, the Statesmen showed resilience in a back-and-forth contest but fell 10-14. Pitt CC jumped out early with nine runs across the first three innings, powered by multiple home runs. RBC responded with a big second inning, plating four runs and staying within striking distance throughout. Sam Gupta led the offensive effort with a perfect 4-for-4 game, including two doubles and two RBI, while Cam Lamb and Lucas De Cordova each added two runs scored. Despite drawing 10 walks and scoring in five different innings, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
In game two, Pitt CC's offense erupted late in a 6-19 decision. After RBC cut into the deficit with a four-run fourth inning—highlighted by a grand slam from Cam Lamb—the visitors answered with an 11-run sixth inning to pull away. Lamb finished with four RBI, while Dalevon Smith added a solo home run. The Statesmen collected eight hits but were unable to contain Pitt's lineup, which tallied 13 hits and nine walks.
In the series finale, RBC turned in its strongest offensive showing but fell just short in a 7-10 loss. The Statesmen totaled 15 hits, with Henry Stewart going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, and Donavan Johnson delivering a 4-for-4 performance. RBC held an early lead and remained within one run entering the late innings, but a four-run eighth inning by the Bulldogs proved to be the difference. A late push in the ninth added two runs, but the comeback attempt came up short.
The Richard Bland College Baseball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 8th in a single, 3pm game.
