Statesmen Take Series Over Rams, Drop Mid-Week Game to Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Baseball team secured a series victory over Southeastern Community College–Whiteville, winning two of three games over the weekend at the Petersburg Sports Complex. The Statesmen used timely hitting, patience at the plate, and solid pitching performances to claim the series.

Richard Bland opened the weekend with an 8-5 comeback victory, highlighted by a decisive seven-run fifth inning. After falling behind early, the Statesmen capitalized on control issues from Southeastern pitching, drawing 11 walks and turning limited hits into big production. Carson Seely led the offense with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Rhett Boyer drove in two runs. Henry Stewart added two RBIs, and Lucas De Cordova delivered a key two-run single during the fifth-inning surge. On the mound, Nate Riggs earned the win, tossing five innings with five strikeouts. Hayden Black closed the door with 3.1 scoreless innings to secure the save.

In game two vs the Rams, the Statesmen carried that momentum into game two, earning a 7-3 win. Once again, Richard Bland responded after an early deficit, tying the game in the second inning before pulling away late. Seely turned in a standout performance, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Myles Holmes contributed two hits and two RBIs, while the team once again showed discipline at the plate with six walks. On the mound, Charlie Hogan dominated, striking out 11 over 6.2 innings to earn the win. David Smith recorded the final out to secure the save.

Southeastern avoided the sweep in the series finale with a 5-8 victory on Sunday. The Statesmen collected 10 hits but were unable to overcome an early deficit and a big sixth inning from Southeastern. Holmes led the offense with two doubles and an RBI, while Donavan Johnson added two hits. Seely and Cam Lamb each drove in runs as well. Despite the loss, Richard Bland showed consistent offensive production throughout the series.

On Tuesday against the Bobcats, Richard Bland dropped a 3-12 decision despite a strong performance from Taloa Moefaauo. Moefaauo powered the Statesmen offense, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and two RBIs, accounting for the majority of Richard Bland's scoring. Vincent Howald added a RBI single in the fourth inning to put the Statesmen on the board. Richard Bland managed five hits in the contest, with Cam Lamb and Donavan Johnson also recording hits. On the mound, Jaiden Michael delivered two scoreless innings in the start, while Michael Keyes allowed two runs over three innings in relief. Bryant & Stratton broke the game open in the seventh inning, plating seven runs on six hits, including a three-run home run, to seal the win.

The Statesmen next host Pitt Community College in the three-game conference series beginning on Friday, April 3rd with a 1pm doubleheader, followed by game three on Saturday, April 4th at 12pm.
