Bobcats Surge Past Statesmen in Midweek Matchup
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College Baseball dropped a midweek contest to Bryant & Stratton College (VA), 3-15, Wednesday afternoon at Petersburg Sports Complex.
The Statesmen struck first in the bottom of the opening inning when Donavan Johnson delivered a RBI single to plate Carson Seely for an early 1-0 advantage. That lead was short-lived, however, as Bryant & Stratton erupted for seven runs in the second inning to take control of the game. The Bobcats capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues in the frame, highlighted by a three-run home run. The visitors continued to add on in the third and fourth innings, using multiple home runs to extend the lead.
Richard Bland plated single runs in the third and fourth innings. Seely came around to score on an error in the third, while Taloa Moefaauo drove in Henry Stewart with an RBI single in the fourth to account for the Statesmen's final runs of the afternoon. Seely and Cam Lamb each recorded a hit and a run scored to pace the offense, while Stewart added a double. Johnson and Moefaauo each drove in a run for Richard Bland, which finished with five hits on the day.
On the mound, Matthew Gentry was tagged with the loss. Nate Riggs, Luke Sweeney, and David Smith each came in in relief.
The Statesmen will look to bounce back in their next outing as they return to conference play this weekend against the Rams of Southeastern Community College-Whiteville. Games one and two will take place in a 3pm doubleheader on Saturday, March 28th, with game three scheduled for 12pm on Sunday, March 29th.
