Stewart’s Blast, Late Insurance Lift Statesmen Past Camp
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College Baseball used timely hitting and a strong effort on the mound to secure a 4-2 victory over Camp Community College on Thursday afternoon. The Statesmen got on the board early thanks to Henry Stewart, who launched a solo home run in the second inning to give RBC a 1-0 lead. Stewart finished with a game-high five total bases and continued to be a key offensive presence throughout the contest.
RBC added to its lead in the fifth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues by Camp. Stewart reached on an error that allowed a run to score, pushing the advantage to 2-0. Camp responded with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to even the score at 2-2, but the Statesmen answered in the seventh. With pressure on the defense, Stewart put the ball in play and reached on an error that brought home Carson Seely, restoring the lead at 3-2.
Richard Bland added an insurance run in the ninth inning when Seely delivered a clutch double and later scored to extend the lead to 4-2. Seely led the offense with multiple key contributions, including a double, three total bases, and a stolen base. Vincent Howald also added a hit and a stolen base, while Drew Davis, Lucas De Cordova, and Warren Landreth each contributed offensively.
On the mound, Jaiden Michael was instrumental in closing out the game, earning the final outs in the ninth, including a strikeout to seal the victory. The pitching staff combined to limit Camp to just five hits while working around defensive errors. Defensively, the Statesmen turned a key double play in the sixth inning to halt a potential Camp rally and maintain momentum.
RBC will look to carry this momentum into its next matchup as the Statesmen travel to Brunswick Community College for a three-game conference series beginning with a 12pm doubleheader on Saturday, March 21st. Game three is slated for 12pm on Sunday, March 22nd.
