Early Deficit Too Much to Overcome as Statesmen Fall to Louisburg
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Statesmen dropped a midweek matchup to Louisburg College on Tuesday afternoon, falling 6-21 at Ironbridge Sports Park.
Louisburg struck quickly and never looked back, plating six runs in the first inning and seven more in the second to build a commanding 0-13 lead. The Hurricanes added six runs in the third and two in the fourth to extend the margin to 0-21 before the Statesmen found their rhythm offensively in the fifth. The Hurricanes capitalized on 13 hits and 12 walks, highlighted by a three-run home run in the second inning and a two-run blast in the third. Richard Bland responded with a six-run fifth inning to avoid the shutout. Joseph Karpovich provided the biggest swing of the day for RBC with a two-run home run to left, scoring Lucas De Cordova. Sam Gupta followed with a RBI triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Joey Todd. Rhett Boyer added a RBI single, and De Cordova drove in a run on a groundout to cap the inning. Offensively, Myles Holmes led the Statesmen with a 2-for-3 performance and a double, while Gupta finished 2-for-2 with a triple and a RBI. Karpovich's homer accounted for two of the team's six runs. On the mound, Ryan Paul took the loss for Richard Bland.
Richard Bland next travels to Robeson Community College for a three-game conference series starting on Saturday, February 28th with a 2pm doubleheader, followed by a 1pm single game on Sunday, March 1st.
