De Cordova Leads Statesmen on Opening Day

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Baseball team opened the season Tuesday afternoon in a single game against the Hurricanes of Camp Community College at Ironbridgde Sports Park.

 

Camp Community College got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after a home run to center field, scored two runs, with one additional run scoring later in the inning. The Hurricanes scored four runs in the bottom of the second on a grand slam to left field.

 

Richard Bland pushed one run across in the second, three in the third, and one in the sixth, and tallied nine hits in the game. Lucas De Cordova collected three hits in three at bats, but Richard Bland fell to Camp 5-16, in seven innings. De Cordova singled in the second inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning. Taloa Moefaauo collected two hits in four at bats.

 

Davis led things off on the mound for the Statesmen. The starter gave up one hit and three runs (2 earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking two. Aiden Poole, Michael Keyes, and Brady Page all came in for relief. Keyes earned two strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.

 

With the loss, the Statesmen move to 0-1 overall. Richard Bland next hosts Allegany College of Maryland on Friday, February 6th in an 11am doubleheader at Ironbridge Sports Park.
