Women’s Basketball Season Concludes in Region Tournament Play-In Game

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The 2025-26 season came to a close Monday evening for the Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team, as the Statesmen fell to Guilford Technical Community College, 51-83, in the Region 10 Tournament play-in game.

 

The #9-seeded Statesmen faced the #8 seeded Titans on the road, with a trip to the Region 10 quarterfinals on the line. Guilford Tech established control early, outscoring Richard Bland 8-20 in the opening quarter and extending the margin to 21-45 by halftime.

 

Richard Bland continued to battle throughout the second half, highlighted by a 19-point fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

 

Keeva Heggins led the Statesmen offensively with 14 points, knocking down two three-pointers and adding three rebounds. Arianna Zepeda contributed nine points, five assists, and four steals, while Hazel Veloz added eight points and four rebounds.

 

Grace Riggs recorded a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with five points, and Nyah Barnwell pulled down eight boards while adding three blocks. As a team, the Statesmen collected 40 rebounds and forced 12 steals defensively.

 

Richard Bland shot 23.4% from the field and 19.4% from three-point range, while Guilford Tech capitalized offensively to secure the win and advance in the tournament.

 

With the loss, Richard Bland's season concluded in the Region 10 Tournament play-in round, while Guilford Tech advanced in postseason play.
