Women’s Basketball Battles Through Four Quarters at Home
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College women's basketball team competed at home against Cleveland Community College on Saturday afternoon, falling 56-68 in conference action.
The Statesmen opened the game strong, holding a 19–16 advantage after the first quarter. Richard Bland stayed within reach through the first half, trailing just 29–30 at the break, before Cleveland Community College pulled ahead in the second half and maintained control down the stretch.
Sophomore Grace Riggs delivered a standout performance for Richard Bland College, finishing with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field. Riggs recorded her fifth double-double of the season, pulling down 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards, to anchor the Statesmen inside.
Nyah Barnwell added 9 points, while Hazel Veloz and Keeva Heggins each contributed 6 points off balanced efforts. Arianna Zepeda facilitated the offense with a team-high 7 assists, helping Richard Bland move the ball effectively throughout the contest.
As a team, the Statesmen collected 33 rebounds and totaled 16 assists, continuing to show growth and effort despite the final score.
Richard Bland College moves to 3–10 overall and 2–7 in conference play. The Statesmen will look to build on individual performances as they continue conference competition on Tuesday, January 13th on the road at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Tip-ff is set for 6pm.
