Four Statesmen Post Double Figures in Battle with Guilford Tech

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College women's basketball put together one of its toughest defensive efforts of the season on Sunday afternoon, but a cold shooting night proved costly as the Statesmen fell 58-63 to Guilford Technical Community College inside Statesman Hall.

RBC opened the game with strong energy, winning the first quarter 19–14 behind active defense and transition opportunities. But Guilford Tech responded with a 9-13 second-quarter push, trimming the halftime gap to just one at 28–27.

The matchup stayed tight throughout, with both teams trading baskets in a physical third quarter that ended 45-46 in favor of the Titans. Guilford Tech found late separation in the fourth, using a pair of interior scores and timely offensive rebounds to close out the five-point win.

Micala Poe sparked the offense with 13 points, including three made threes, while adding three assists and four steals. Hazel Veloz matched her with 13 points of her own, hitting four threes and pulling down seven rebounds. Grace Riggs battled all game for 12 points and five boards, while Keeva Heggins posted 10 points, and Arianna Zepeda filled the stat sheet with six assists, six steals, and four rebounds.

Richard Bland (3-6 overall, 2-3 conference) looks to bounce back as they host Braynt & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, December 10th in a 5pm contest.
