Statesmen Halted at Home by Fayetteville Tech
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College women's basketball couldn't find its offensive rhythm on Tuesday night, falling 43-66 to Fayetteville Technical Community College inside Statesman Hall. The loss moves RBC to 3-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
The Statesmen battled through a cold shooting night, finishing 15-of-60 from the field and 4-of-20 from behind the arc. Despite the offensive struggles, RBC continued to create opportunities with effort on the glass and stretches of defensive pressure that kept the game close through the first half.
Freshman guard Leila Estrada provided a strong spark, leading the Statesmen with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including three made threes. Grace Riggs added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench, continuing her steady scoring presence. Ayjianna Bonapart controlled the paint with seven rebounds and three assists, while Hazel Veloz pulled down six boards of her own.
RBC went into halftime trailing just 24-31 after an 18-point second quarter, but Fayetteville Tech regained control in the second half behind a 23-point fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.
Richard Bland looks to bounce back as conference play continues, aiming to regroup and return to the win column. The Statesmen will be back in action Sunday, December 7th at Statesman Hall as they host the Titans of Guilford Technical Community College at 4pm.
