Softball Claims Region 10 Runner-Up Finish, Advances to Atlantic B District Play

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College Softball put together an impressive postseason run over the weekend, highlighted by a semifinal upset over No. 2 Pitt Community College, to earn a Region 10 runner-up finish and advance to the Atlantic B District Tournament.

The Statesmen opened championship Saturday with a thrilling 8-7 victory over Pitt in the semifinal round. RBC jumped out early, plating runs in each of the first three innings, including a four-run third inning that proved to be the difference.

Claudia Minetree and Samantha Barbe led the offensive charge with two RBI apiece, while Kamryn Lane and Rayna Klar also drove in runs. Sally Campos paced the lineup with three hits as RBC totaled 11 on the day. In the circle, Ava Balli delivered a strong start, tossing six innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out six. Pitt mounted a late rally in the seventh, but Grace Urban secured the final outs to preserve the win and send RBC to the championship game.

Facing Louisburg College in the Region 10 title game, the Statesmen struck first behind a RBI double from Kamryn Lane in the opening inning. However, Louisburg responded with a four-run third inning and added another in the fourth to take control. Lane accounted for all three RBI in the contest, finishing with a pair of doubles, while Claudia Minetree scored twice. RBC was limited to three hits overall as Louisburg held on for a 3-5 victory.

Despite the loss, Richard Bland's postseason performance secured the program a Region 10 Runner-Up finish and a spot in the upcoming Atlantic B District Tournament. The Statesmen will now host Mercer County Community College in a best-of-three series this weekend, with a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament on the line. Friday, May 8th will consist of a 12pm doubleheader, with an if-needed game three on Saturday, May 9th at 12pm.
