Statesmen Split Weekend in North Carolina, Finish 2-2

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Softball team turned in a balanced weekend on the road, going 2-2 across matchups with Brunswick Community College and Pitt Community College. The Statesmen opened strong, battled through adversity, and closed the trip with an impressive bounce-back win.

RBC started the weekend with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Brunswick. A six-run first inning set the tone, highlighted by a two-run home run from Kamryn Lane and RBI contributions from Claudia Minetree and Samantha Montalvo. The offense totaled 11 hits, with Samantha Barbe leading the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance. Brunswick rallied late, but Ava Balli went the distance in the circle to secure the win.

In game two, Brunswick responded with a 1-10 run-rule victory. RBC managed four hits, including doubles from Allison Hebron and Samantha Montalvo, while Lane drove in the lone run. Defensive miscues proved costly as Brunswick capitalized on errors to pull away late.

The Statesmen faced another tough test on Saturday against Pitt Community College, falling 5-10 in the opener. Despite the loss, RBC showed resilience, scoring five runs on seven hits. A big fifth inning saw RBIs from Amara Triplett, Marissa Anderson, and Emma Shelhorse, who finished with two RBIs. However, Pitt used a six-run sixth inning to create separation.

RBC responded in the finale with a strong 4-1 victory to close the weekend. Ava Balli delivered a complete-game performance, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four. Offensively, Samantha Montalvo provided the spark with a two-RBI double, while Arianna Manson added an RBI double of her own. The Statesmen capitalized on key opportunities in the middle innings to secure the win.

The Richard Bland College Softball team will next travel to Patrick & Henry Community College on Tuesday, April 21st for a 1pm doubleheader with the Patriots.
