Statesmen Show Grit in Doubleheader Battle at Louisburg

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Softball team fell in both games of a road doubleheader at Louisburg College on Wednesday evening, dropping game one 4-12 and game two 8-12.

In game one, the Statesmen were limited to just three hits, but made the most of their opportunities early. Claudia Minetree and Kamryn Lane provided the offense, each launching home runs. Lane's three-run shot in the third inning cut into an early deficit, while Minetree added a solo homer in the fifth. Despite the power, Louisburg's explosive second inning—highlighted by multiple extra-base hits and a grand slam—created a gap the Statesmen couldn't overcome. Minetree finished a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Game two saw a much stronger offensive showing from Richard Bland, tallying nine hits and eight runs. Lane continued her standout day, going 2-for-2 with five RBIs, including a game-tying grand slam in the fifth inning that evened the score at 8-8. Rayna Klar added two hits and a RBI, while Samantha Montalvo contributed with a triple and a run batted in. However, Louisburg responded immediately in the bottom half of the fifth with two home runs to regain control. Despite working five walks and generating late opportunities, the Statesmen were unable to complete the comeback.

The Richard Bland College Softball team will next travel to Brunswick Community College on Friday, April 17^th for a 2pm conference doubleheader. They will then travel to Pitt Community College on Saturday, April 18^th for a 1pm conference doubleheader, which will conclude the weekend.
