Softball Celebrates Sophomore Day with Doubleheader Sweep
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Softball team celebrated Sophomore Day in dominant fashion on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Fayetteville Technical Community College with 10-0 and 8-0 victories. The Statesmen honored their sophomore class of Ava Balli, Jaina Davis, Brayanna Holland, Jaylin Daggins, Claudia Minetree, Shekinah Soto, Arianna Manson, Sydney Thompson, Patricia Lett, Grace Urban, and Samantha Barbe, in between games.
In game one, Richard Bland wasted no time setting the tone, plating five runs in the opening inning and adding three more in the second to take early control. The offense continued to roll, finishing with 10 runs on 14 hits in a five-inning run-rule victory. Sophomore Grace Urban led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Rayna Klar added a home run and drove in two runs, while Arianna Manson and Patricia Lett each contributed doubles and RBIs. Daphne Hall also recorded a multi-hit game and swiped two bases. In the circle, Ava Balli was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits and striking out four to earn her seventh win of the season.
The Statesmen carried that momentum into game two, once again controlling the game from the start. Richard Bland scored in four of the first six innings, highlighted by a three-run fourth inning, on the way to an 8-0 win. Claudia Minetree paced the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Jaylin Daggins drove in a pair of runs. Rayna Klar continued her strong day with two hits and a RBI, and Jaina Davis created havoc on the basepaths with four stolen bases. In the circle, Grace Urban delivered another stellar performance, striking out nine while allowing just two hits in a complete-game shutout.
As a team, Richard Bland combined for 23 hits on the day while the pitching staff limited Fayetteville Technical Community College to just four total hits across both games.
The Richard Bland College Softball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, March 25th in a 3pm doubleheader to continue conference play.
