Statesmen Bats Explode for 35 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Fayetteville Tech
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Softball team powered its way to a dominant doubleheader sweep on Wednesday, defeating Fayetteville Technical Community College 19-1 in five innings in game one before taking game two 16-4.
In the two games combined, the Statesmen offense produced 35 runs on 24 hits, using several big innings to pull away in both contests.
In game one, Richard Bland wasted no time getting the offense going, scoring three runs in the first inning and erupting for seven runs in the second to take firm control of the game. Rayna Klar led the offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a double and multiple run-scoring singles. Kamryn Lane also drove in four runs, finishing 3-for-3 with a double. Samantha Barbe had a big day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI, while Arianna Manson added two hits, three RBI, and a triple. The Statesmen continued to add on with five runs in the third, three in the fourth, and another in the fifth to cap the 19-run performance. In the circle, Ava Balli earned the win, tossing five innings while allowing just one run (unearned) on six hits with five strikeouts.
In game two, the Trojans came out aggressive scoring three runs in the opening inning, but the Statesmen quickly responded with a massive nine-run second inning to flip the momentum. Samantha Barbe highlighted the inning with a two-run home run and finished the game 2-for-2 with a homer, double, four RBI, and two runs scored. Samantha Montalvo paced the offense with three hits, three runs, and three RBI, while Daphne Hall scored twice and drove in a run. Rayna Klar, Arianna Manson, and Emma Shelhorse each contributed RBI as part of the 16-run effort. Shelhorse also earned the victory in the circle, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
With the sweep, Richard Bland continues its strong offensive stretch as the Statesmen look ahead to their next matchup later this week when they travel to Catawba Valley Community College for a three-game series. Games one and two are set for Saturday, March 14th in a 1pm doubleheader, followed by a non-conference game three on Sunday, March 15th at 12pm.
