Richard Bland Sweeps Harford Owls in Offensive Showcase

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College softball team put together a dominant day at the plate and in the circle Saturday afternoon, sweeping Harford Community College, 9-1 and 13-9, in a doubleheader at home.

In game one, the Statesmen set the tone early, using a six-run fourth inning to pull away for a run-rule victory. Claudia Minetree led the offense, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and a RBI. Arianna Manson added two hits and two RBI, while Allison Hebron delivered a three-RBI double in the decisive fourth inning. Jaclyn Betti drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Samantha Barbe sparked the offense with aggressive baserunning, including a steal of home. In the circle, Marissa Anderson was in control from start to finish. The right-hander tossed five innings, allowing just two hits and one unearned run while striking out seven. She faced 19 batters and kept Harford off balance throughout. RBC totaled nine hits and capitalized on five walks, scoring in three of the four innings they came to the plate.

In game two, the nightcap turned into an offensive battle, but the Statesmen once again had the answers. Richard Bland jumped ahead with two runs in the first and added four more in the third to build momentum. After Harford rallied to close the gap, RBC responded with a five-run fifth inning to regain control. Daphne Hall powered the lineup, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Jaylin Daggins added two hits and three RBI, while Allison Hebron chipped in a two-RBI double. Jaclyn Betti, Samantha Barbe, and Jaina Davis each drove in a run, and the Statesmen showcased their speed with multiple stolen bases, including three from Gabby Shaver and two from Daggins. Ava Balli earned the win, throwing 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts. Despite a late push from Harford, the Statesmen closed the door to secure the sweep. Richard Bland finished game two with 14 hits and drew seven walks, continuing an aggressive and disciplined approach at the plate.

With the pair of victories, the Statesmen gain momentum early in the season and continue to show depth throughout the lineup and pitching staff.

Richard Bland (4-8) will next travel to USC Salkehatchie on Monday, February 23rd for a 1pm doubleheader. The Statesmen will remain in South Carolina overnight, to then face USC Sumter on Tuesday, February 24th in a 1pm doubleheader before returning to Virginia.
