TAYLOR SLATE SIGNS WITH ROANOKE COLLEGE

PETERSBURG, Va.Taylor Slate, a sophomore catcher, signed her letter of intent to attend Roanoke College in the fall.

 

Slate, who was the first player recruited to Richard Bland College women's softball program, played in 70 games in two seasons for a total of 90 hits, three home runs, 10 doubles, five triples and 50 RBI for her career. She is the program leader in hits, RBI and stolen bases.

 

The Emporia, Va., native is a two-time All-Region 10 First-Team performer, two-time All-Region 10 All-Tournament Team member and 2014 Marucci Elite Hitter for District P.

 

This past season Slate was named to the 2015 VaSID All-State Second Team after leading her team to its second consecutive regular season title. She finished the season with a batting average of .417.

 

Roanoke College is a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) where Slate will join the Maroons under leadership of Mike Mitchell. The Maroons finished 22-14 overall and 15-5 in the conference.

 

"It's going to be hard to replace Taylor, she helped start this program," said head coach Martha Covington. "Taylor has grown so much in her two years at Richard Bland and we're proud that she will continue to play at the next level."
