Fisher Named National Champion, Harris Runner-Up, Boothes and Johnson All-Americans
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Track and Field teams delivered an outstanding performance on the national stage over the weekend as four Statesmen earned NJCAA All-American honors at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Topeka, Kansas.
Leading the way was Michaelyn Fisher, who captured the NJCAA National Championship in the long jump with a winning mark of 5.98 meters. Fisher's jump secured the national title and highlighted a strong showing for Richard Bland in the field events. This is a first for Richard Bland and a tremendous accomplishment.
On the men's side, Brian Harris earned National Runner-Up honors in the long jump, posting an impressive mark of 7.44 meters to claim second place and All-American recognition.
Richard Bland also saw two additional athletes reach the podium with fourth-place finishes. Camrie Boothes placed fourth in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.76 meters, while Lavor Johnson finished fourth in the men's triple jump with a jump of 15.34 meters.
All four athletes—Fisher, Harris, Boothes, and Johnson—earned NJCAA All-American honors for their top finishes at the National Championship meet. The quartet's performances capped a successful indoor season for the Statesmen and showcased Richard Bland College's continued presence among the Nation's top junior college track and field programs.
The Statesmen also saw record-breaking performances on the track. Corey Winfield Jr. broke the Richard Bland College school record in the 400 meters with a 47.68 finish, a mark he had already set twice earlier during the indoor season.
Richard Bland's 4x400 meter relay team (Nathaniel Simmons, Braylen Minor, Winfield Jr., and Braylon Slappy) also made history at the national meet, posting a new school record in the event with a 3:15.16 finish.
This is only the 4th season since the program was reinstated after being put on a pause in 2016. RBC Athletics is excited for the future and being able to watch the program compete in the upcoming outdoor season.
