Statesmen Season Concludes in Region 10 Semifinals Battle Against Wake Tech

 SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College men's soccer team saw its 2025 season come to a close Wednesday afternoon, falling 0-1 to Wake Technical Community College in the Region 10 Semifinals at WRAL Soccer Park.

The tightly contested match remained scoreless through much of regulation before Wake Tech found the breakthrough in the 83rd minute on an unassisted goal from Kenneth Suarez. Despite generating 12 total shots and five corner kicks, the Statesmen were unable to capitalize on their chances in the attacking third.

Freshman goalkeeper Owen Stahl turned in another standout performance for Richard Bland, recording 10 saves to keep the match within reach throughout. The defensive unit—anchored by Joel Hernandez, Tuan O'Horo, Juan Yepez, and Fabian Schiebenes—stood strong against a relentless Wake Tech offense that tallied 14 shots, including 11 on goal.

The loss concludes a strong 2025 season for the Statesmen, who finish the year with an 8-4-2 overall record and a 3-3-2 mark in Region 10 play. Under the leadership of head coach, Damien Westfield, Richard Bland showed steady growth and consistency on both ends of the pitch, highlighted by several players earning All-Region honors announced prior to Region Tournament play.

With the conclusion of the 2025 season, goalkeeper Owen Stahl has officially claimed the top spot in the Richard Bland record book for single-season saves (135), cementing his standout campaign between the posts. He has also finished #4 for save percentage (.877), #4 in goals against average (1.36), #4 for most ties (2), and #2 for most shutouts (6).

As the program looks ahead, the foundation built this season provides plenty of optimism for 2026—with a returning core of impact players.
