SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Men's Soccer team delivered a strong second-half performance to earn a 2-0 victory over USC Sumter on Friday afternoon at Willcox Field. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 7-3-2 overall and 2-3-2 in Region 10 play, while securing their fifth shutout of the season.
After a scoreless opening half, the Statesmen found their rhythm following the break. In the 65th minute, the Statesmen offense was fouled in the penalty box. Naor Suarez broke the deadlock with the unassisted strike to put Richard Bland on top, 1-0. The momentum carried into the closing stretch as Cornelious Appiah Oppong doubled the advantage in the 86th minute, finishing a setup from Ian MacArthur to seal the result.
Defensively, the Statesmen were in command from start to finish. Goalkeeper Owen Stahl recorded seven saves, anchoring a disciplined RBC back line.
The Statesmen will return to action on Sunday, October 19th for their final regular-season game against Cape Fear Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm, with sophomore day activities taking place just prior to kickoff.
