Statesmen Esports Programs Wrap Up Regular Season, Prepare for Postseason Play
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Esports program closed out an active and competitive stretch of the spring season across multiple titles, with several teams earning postseason qualification and gaining valuable momentum heading into tournament play.
In Marvel Rivals, both Division I and Division III squads showed flashes of strong play down the stretch. The Division I team went 3-2 from mid-March through the end of the regular season, highlighted by 3-2 victories over Lake Sumter State College and Daytona State College. Meanwhile, the Division III team finished the regular season at 3-3 and surged at the right time, earning consecutive 3-0 wins over East Georgia State College and State Fair Community College in postseason qualifiers to lock in the No. 10 seed in a 32-team bracket.
In Fortnite, RBC posted a 4-5 regular season record and secured the No. 11 seed in postseason play. The Statesmen picked up key wins over Luzerne County Community College and Northeastern Junior College and added another victory over Finger Lakes Community College during postseason qualifying rounds.
The Tekken 8 squad battled through a challenging schedule, finishing 1-5 overall in the regular season. Despite the record, the team earned a postseason berth as the No. 13 seed, highlighted by a qualifier win to keep their season alive.
RBC's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitors delivered one of the strongest overall performances of the spring. In Division II play, Moses Palacios-Veverka led the way with a 9-3 record, while Evelyn Newman posted a 6-7 mark and secured the No. 11 seed in the tournament bracket. Gabriel Gore finished at 3-3, and Robert Howard rounded out competition with a 1-8 record, earning postseason experience in a deep 64-player field.
In Overwatch, the Statesmen concluded the regular season with a 1-5 record against a tough slate of opponents, securing the No. 18 seed heading into postseason competition.
The Valorant team finished 4-5 overall and earned the No. 19 seed in a competitive 32-team bracket. The team's early-season momentum included wins over Rose State College and Forsyth Technical Community College.
In Mario Kart, RBC saw strong individual performances, particularly from Seannon Duncan, who posted a 5-3 record and earned the No. 26 seed in Division III competition. Aeneas Leonard also turned in an impressive showing in Division II play with multiple dominant 4-0 victories throughout the season.
Finally, the Rocket League team wrapped up the regular season with a 3-5 record and secured the No. 8 seed in a 16-team postseason field, highlighted by wins over Louisburg College and multiple BYE advancements.
With postseason brackets set across multiple titles, the Statesmen Esports program now shifts its focus toward tournament competition, aiming to build on late-season improvements and make strong runs in national brackets.
