SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William & Mary women's volleyball team secured the No. 1 seed in late October's Region 10 Volleyball Championship with a tight four set (25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 25-18) victory over rival Spartanburg Methodist in Statesman Hall.
With the victory, RBC improves to 10-4 on the season. Spartanburg drops to 8-9. The Statesmen will next host Lenior Community College at Statesman Hall on October 9 at 6:30 p.m.
On October 27, Spartanburg hosts RBC from Region 10, and Region 17 Andrew College of Cuthbert, Georgia. With the victory, the Statesmen advance to the finals and will face the winner of the Spartanburg-Andrew College match.
The winner of that contest advances to Bradenton, Florida to compete in the Region 8 Championships, one of 14 district championships the NJCAA hosts. The two finalists from that event qualify for the NJCAA Division I National Championships on November 15-17 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas.
"From the start of the season the goal has been to win the Region and advance to the national championships," said head coach Scott Newton. "This victory puts us one step closer to that goal."
