SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College second-year women's volleyball head coach Scott Newton has announced his program's 31-match schedule for the upcoming 2018 season. The campaign features home and away contests at lone NJCAA Division I, Region 10 opponent Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.), along with six home games at Statesman Hall, including four against Region 10, Division II members. The Statesmen will open their campaign against Region 11, Division I Marshalltown (Iowa) and Region 10, DII Brunswick (N.C.) on August 24 at Brunswick Community College in Bolivia, North Carolina.
"This schedule is very competitive and heavy in terms of scheduled games (31) compared to our inaugural season (19)," said Newton. "I'm excited about the opportunity it brings for our student-athletes this season,"
Richard Bland will host Spartanburg Methodist on September 29 at 12 p.m., while playing at Spartanburg Methodist on October 27 at 4 p.m., the latter for the Region 10 title. In addition, the Statesmen will also play the Pioneers on September 8 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
"This will be our first season competing against SMC," said Newton. "They have been very successful in the past. Getting past them will not be easy, but our schedule is set up to prepare us to be successful in the post-season. This season our region winner has been re-districted to compete against Region 8 and Region 17, which is where the National Champion came from last year and will present a great challenge for our program."
